New York Botanical Garden: Winter Wonderland

After the kick off of the 14th Annual Winter Lecture Series featuring Emeritus Professor Brian J. Huntley, Eric Groft and NYBG Board Member Julie Sakellariadis made a quick tour of the Garden before jumping the Metro North Train back to the City.

From The Double allee of Liriodendron tulipifera/Tulip Trees at the beaux arts Heaquarters Building to the recently opened and OvS designed Native Plant Garden, NYBG was dressed in a skirt of snow and ice on a day that the temps stayed well below freezing.

The sound of falling water from the water feature and the crunch of ice underfoot provided a wintery focus to the back drop of ever-gold native grasses and forbs. One highlight was the Cornus siricea ‘Cardinal’/Red Twig Dogwood in the Bog Garden with iridescent twigs coming out of the white blanket of snow.
