OvS Organics

OvS, working with Seibert & Rice, a leading importer of artisanal terra-cotta pots, has designed a line of historically-inspired terra-cotta vessels for the New Jersey-based company’s American Collection. In true OvS style, rather than design a single pot, the firm fashioned a variety of vessels that can be used to choreograph vignettes that fully display the exuberance of the plantings.

The product line, OvS Organics, adds drama to the garden, while showcasing the time-honored craftsmanship of Italian pottery. Buyers can chose from a set of three pots of varying sizes, equally dramatic whether used individually or coupled in the classic OvS grouping of three. The pots can be seen in the exhibit The New American Garden: The Landscape Architecture of Oehme, van Sweden, now on view at the National Building Museum.

Inspiration for these vessels is drawn from the beauty and vitality of nature as represented classically through the ages, but infused with a modern and fresh look, indicative of OvS’ design style. Imagery of Zantedeschia aethiopica “calla lily,” Cynara cardunculus “cardoon,” and Helleborus orientalis “lenten rose,” enliven these boutique garden accessories.

The vessels were fashioned by the artisans of the small, Tuscan town of Impruneta outside of Florence, Italy.  In an effort to preserve the ‘hand-of-man’ quality of terra-cotta pottery, the artisans use the ancient coil and slab methods of pot construction. The thickness of the terra-cotta and the skilled workmanship is evident in each shape.
