Rubell Museum and Gallery 64 Receive Two Awards

The Rubell Museum and Gallery 64 in Washington, DC were named Best New Development of 2023 in the Washington Business Journal and was also a Chapter Design Award Winner for Design for Economy by The Washington Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA|DC).

AIA entries were juried by accomplished designers in the field of architecture and this project was selected on its success in design for economy. In this category, AIA defines good design as a project that “adds economic value for owners, occupants, the community, and the planet – regardless of project size and budget.” The jury focused on building size, material use and reuse, operational requirements, financing and incentives, community links, as well as cost estimating and value engineering.

OvS, along with architecture firm Beyer Blinder Belle, civil engineering firm, Wiles Mensch Corporation, and developer Lowe Enterprise, Real Estate Group worked on this arts and community-focused redevelopment of the Randall Junior High School. It includes the renovation and repositioning of the historic school, backed by a new c-shaped LEED Platinum residential tower. The development created affordable housing and enriched local community with a new cultural institution, currently housing the Rubell Museum, in addition to preserving local history and creating new publicly-accessible open space.
