Lisa Delplace Lectures at Design DC

Lisa Delplace, OvS Principal and CEO, will participate in a panel discussion to present her work on the new Washington, DC Water and Sewer Authority Headquarters on Tuesday, October 3. The discussion is part of Design DC 2017, an annual conference that focuses on the Washington, DC design community.

Rounding out the panel is the project’s architect, Steve Shockey, Design Director for SmithGroupJJR, and Matt Jantz, Mechanical Engineer for SmithGroupJJR.

An active utility, the new headquarters is designed to LEED-Platinum specifications and employs technology which has yet to be used in the U.S. While the building’s design alleviates over-abundant daylight and solar heat gain, the heating and cooling system is particularly noteworthy. The system harnesses wastewater as a source of thermal energy to condition the completion, the facility will serve as an international model for innovation and resiliency in a water management facility.

Together, the building and site incorporate state-of-the-art sustainable and resilient design strategies that result in a dynamic workplace, and is a bold, innovative statement reflecting the agency’s environmental stewardship.
