In Memory of Harry W. Porter

Today, we write with sad news. Mr. Harry W. Porter, former faculty member and Dean of the University of Virginia, passed away yesterday at his home in New Bern, North Carolina. He was 74.

Captree Island Project

Oehme, van Sweden recently began work on a new residential project on Captree Island, overlooking Great South Bay, a lagoon that’s situated between Long Island and Fire Island, in New York.

The Creation of a Native Meadow on Virginia’s Northern Neck

At one of Oehme, van Sweden’s current residential projects on the Northern Neck of Virginia, a meadow of native Bluestem grasses, goldenrod and other wildflowers dressed in rich autumnal golds, oranges, and browns meets an existing cordgrass marsh.

Contrast in the Garden at Cornerstone Sonoma

Oehme, van Sweden was again praised in the blog-o-sphere for our work at Conerstone Sonoma in California, a self-described “collection of shops, wineries and a gourmet cafe set amidst nine acres of garden installations created by the world’s leading landscape architects.”

Creating Texture in Container Plantings

On a recent glorious fall day, Lisa Delplace and Hilary Oat-Judge installed container plantings for a long-time client in McLean, VA. Lisa selected a mix of evergreen shrubs, grasses, perennials and annuals to create distinct textural compositions at each entry and terrace.
