Oehme, van Sweden at the 2012 ASLA Conference
On September 26th through October 1, Oehme, van Sweden Principal Eric Groft attended the Annual ASLA Conference at the Phoenix Convention Center.
Eric participated in two talks, the first on Friday was titled “The Art and Science of Designing Native Landscapes: Meadows, Grasslands and Woodlands.” Steve Haines from Prairie Moon Nursery started the talk and dealt with the science behind landscape design and how to prepare a spec for a proper seed mix. Larry Weaner followed with how to implement and maintain the design. Eric then presented three Oehme, van Sweden case studies on which he and Larry have collaborated, including a twenty five acre estate in North Salem, NY, a bayside property on the Northern Neck of Virginia, and a large horse farm in southern New England.
On Saturday, Eric participated in a talk titled “Water Works: A Key to Designing State of the Art, Award Winning Water Features” with fellow presenters, Brian Van Bower of Genesis 3, Dave Pederson, an Engineer with Watershapes, and Skip Philips of Questar Pools and Genesis 3. Eric wrapped up the talk with case studies of Oehme, van Sweden’s water gardens in Georgetown (Washington, DC), North Salem, NY, The Tred Avon river on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, the Hamptons, Newport (Rhode Island) and New South Wales in Australia.
