PARK(ing) Day 2023
Friday, September 15
PARK(ing) Day is coming to Capitol Hill’s Barracks Row on September 15, 2023.
PARK(ing) Day is a global, public, participatory project where people across the world temporarily repurpose curbside parking spaces and convert them into public parks and social spaces to advocate for safer, greener, and more equitable streets. Park(ing) Day has become a global experiment in reprogramming vehicular space for social exchange, artistic expression, and play.
This year, OvS has teamed up with our neighbors Taoti Creative, Barracks Row Main Street, Capitol Hill Arts Workshop (CHAW), Bodegon Spanish Tapas, and Capitol Hill BID to conceptualize, build, and install a temporary public park in front of 507 8th Street SE.
The park will be open between 9 am and 7 pm, offering music and arts, horticulture, and a new means of appreciating an urban, outdoor space. Come for coffee and all-ages painting in the morning and stick around for the hands-on planting activities and musical performance by CHAW students in the afternoon. In the evening, flamenco dance and live jazz from plays from 5 to 7. Follow the music and look for the open garage doors.
This is a FREE event and is open to the public. A cash bar is available beginning at 5 within The 507, Taoti’s event space.
