The Rededication of the German-American Friendship Garden
On Friday, April 11th, Oehme, van Sweden & Associates, Inc. was honored to participate in the Rededication Ceremony for the German-American Friendship Garden on the National Mall. Lisa Delplace and Stacilyn Feldman joined German Ambassador Peter Ammon, as well as Robert Vogel, the Superintendent of the National Mall and Memorial Parks, and dozens of guests at the Garden for a ceremony and celebration.
Mr. Vogel spoke at length about Oehme, van Sweden’s recent and historical involvement in the German-American Friendship Garden, as well as many other significant Washington landscapes, such as the Federal Reserve, National Arboretum, The National World War II Memorial, and Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial. His kind remarks about OvS Founding Principals James van Sweden and Wolfgang Oehme, who originally designed and planted the garden, were appreciated by all.
After the ceremony, Ambassador Ammon and Superintendent Vogel planted the final Salvia ‘Ostfrieland’ in the garden, which signaled the opening of the updated Garden. A cake was shared, and everyone enjoyed one of the most beautiful Spring afternoons in recent memory.
