Eric Groft attends UVA A-School Reunion
OvS Principal Eric Groft recently attended an alumni weekend at the University of Virginia’s School of Architecture Department of Landscape Architecture. For Eric, the highlight was the opportunity to reconnect with mentor Dan Wenk, now superintendent of Yellowstone National Park.
Superintendent Wenk gave the Benjamin Howland Memorial Lecture, “A Landscape Architect’s Journey in the National Park Service” and retraced his career through management of several of United States’ most prominent parks. The talk had special significance to Eric, who had worked for a summer in Yellowstone in 1982, following his graduation from UVA.
On a tour of the grounds of the University and the renovations of Thomas Jefferson’s Rotunda, Eric showed colleagues the OvS’ work at the Alderman Library Quadrangle. The reunion also featured film screenings of graduates’ built work, as well as a visit to the exhibition “The NPS Centennial and the Work of Benjamin C. Howland,” as discussed by Superintendent Wenk.
